Honda has released final specs of the all-new HR-V crossover in Europe, which will launch with two engines, a diesel and a petrol.

 Arriving in Europe this summer, the Honda HR-V will offer customers the choice of a 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel and a 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol unit, both from Honda’s advanced Earth Dreams Technology series.

Honda says the new HR-V will deliver fuel economy and emissions among the best in its class. Obviously, the diesel engine will be the economy champion. Offered with a newly-engineered six-speed manual transmission, the diesel-powered Honda HR-V will have a combined fuel economy rating of 4.0 l/100km (70.6 mpg UK or 58.8 mpg US), with CO2 emissions of 104 g/km.

Rated at 120PS (118hp), the 1.6-liter diesel unit allows the new HR-V to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 10.1 seconds.

Petrol buyers will get a 130PS (128hp) 1.5 liter i-VTEC engine, which is rated at 5.2 l/100km (54.3 mpg UK or 45.2 mpg US) and emits 120 g/km of CO2 when mated to the optional CVT automatic transmission.

When linked to the standard six-speed manual, the petrol-powered HR-V averages 5.6 l/100km (50.4 mpg UK or 40 mpg US), with CO2 emissions of 130 g/km. Despite having more power, the petrol-powered HR-V accelerates slower than the diesel: the manual version needs 10.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h from standstill, while the CVT-equipped model does it in 10.9 seconds.

In terms of practicality, the new Honda HR-V offers 453 liters (16 cu-ft) of boot space with the rear seats up and 1,026 liters (36.2 cu-ft) with the rear seats down. Honda says the HR-ve delivers best-in-class interior space, with the cabin also described as “exceptionally versatile,” thanks in part to the Magic Seats system.

Equipment highlights include the Honda Connect in-car infotainment system, as well as a series of safety aids employing radar and camera technologies. More details, including pricing, will be released closer to the HR-V’s summer launch.
