Like, OMG you guys, isn’t this great? Just kidding. It’s not that great. Since the last thing we need is more people using their cars for things which don’t involve driving.

Or you know, at least take a page out of the “Holden manual” for having a good time. Other than that, do we really need hands-free selfie technology?

Honda sure thinks we might, since they’ve went and found out that one-third of all photos taken by people between the ages of 18 and 24 are selfies. But to go out and introduce a “unique trim model” in order to appeal to an audience which should focus more on the road than on taking picture, is a bit too much, isn’t it? Unless this is a very elaborate April Fool’s prank in which case, it’s pretty darn funny.

Honda says they fitted no fewer than 10 selfie cameras throughout the HR-V, which should make for some nice shots if you’re out with the family on a long drive or with a bunch of friends goofing around.

According to Honda’s HR-V brand manager Gazo Enjinia “Honda is embracing the selfie phenomenon and the creative, artistic sensibilities of millennials with this versatile, youthful trim model. Cameras were already part of the all-new HR-V, used for LaneWatch and the rearview camera, so we found a way to incorporate more of them, based on the role of selfies in culture today.”

You know, if we stop to think about it, it was probably only a matter of time until something like this happened, even if it’s not for real. Selfies have become hugely popular, and so phone companies have responded accordingly by developing mobile phones with really powerful front cameras. Of course, not as powerful as their rear snappers, but at 13 mpx (like what HTC & Oppo are offering), they sure do a better job than the 1 or 1.2 mpx ones we were normally using.

Bottom line, all we can do is wait and see if somehow this gets taken any further. Is it weird that for some reason, we’re hoping it won’t?
