We caught Jaguar’s first-ever SUV model, the F-Pace, warming up on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

A background check on the plates tells us that this tester is powered by Jaguar’s 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that puts out 340PS (335hp) and 436Nm (32 lb-ft) of torque in the related XE sedan, with which it shares its lightweight aluminum-intensive platform.

The powertrain lineup will largely mirror that of the XE including the Ingenium 2.0-liter turbo diesels with up to 200PS (197hp) and 2.0-liter petrols with up to 240PS (237hp), though, at this point, we don’t know which ones will be offered in North America. If Jaguar really wants to up their game against the Germans, they could drop their supercharged V8 in an F-Pace R high-performance model.

In our previous ‘Visual Comparison’, we established that the F-Pace’s design will be extremely close to the C-X17 Concept shown in Frankfurt back in 2013, so expect similar exterior dimensions for the production car at 4,718mm (185.7 inches) long, 1,649mm (64.9 inches) tall and 1,959mm (77.1 inches) wide.

Inside, we expect the F-Pace to have plenty in common with the XE including a twin-dial instrument binnacle and JLR’s new InControl touchscreen multimedia system with a large display incorporated in the center console.

At the New York Auto Show, Jaguar confirmed that the F-Pace will have its world premiere at the Frankfurt motor show in September, with sales to start in 2016.
