We know that by now you’re as familiar as you can be with the McLaren 570S. You know it sits below the likes of the 650S, 650S Spider, 675LT and the P1. And you know it’s down on power compared to any of those models.

But what you may slowly start to realize is that from a consumer perspective, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t sell a lot better than any of the Super Series or Ultimate Series cars.

Even though it hasn’t been priced yet, it will obviously be cheaper to purchase than a 650S, not to mention the other ones. However we could argue that it’s also better looking than the 650S while still being extraordinarily fast.

When we heard that the 570S would hit 62 mph (100km/h) in just 3.2 seconds, we were pretty amazed because that’s about as quick as the discontinued 12C and only 0.2 seconds off the pace of the 650S. Considering the fact that people who spend small fortunes on supercars tend to drive them more around town and on country roads (maybe the occasional track day), they will definitely not care about how much faster a 650S would be around a circuit or from 0 to 200km/h and above.

Of course, there are lots of people who would care, but odds are they’re not going to represent the majority of 570S customers who are simply looking for a cool alternative to a Porsche 911 Turbo or Audi R8, and will enjoy the car without ever thinking it’s in any way too slow for them.

McLaren said it themselves, they want to follow the “Porsche 911” blueprint when it comes to their models, which means building different versions of the same cars by further growing both the Sports Series and the Super Series line-up.

We’re definitely excited to see how people respond to the 570S.
