Opel talks about their new ADAM ROCKS S as being “Anything but Cute”. We disagree. This is a cute car. However, its 150 HP turbocharged 1.4 liter engine might have something to say about that.

And yes, thanks to its sporty mini crossover-like appearance the ADAM ROCKS S does look a bit more masculine than you’d expect. As for the 150 HP ECOTEC engine, it’s capable of launching the car towards 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.5 seconds and transitioning from 80 km/h to 120 km/h in fifth gear in just 7.9 seconds.

Still, the ADAM ROCKS S only looks rugged, so we wouldn’t recommend anybody taking it off-road, since the car has been lowered by 15 mm and its braking system has been tuned to offer better stopping performance. This is, for a lack of a better term, a small hot hatch. Or at least a warm one.

Opel VP of design Mark Adams says that “The combination of it’s rugged, adventurous looks, plus it’s sharp sporty performance gives the ADAM ROCKS S its very own unique personality,” which is something customers will definitely take into consideration, especially young people, or young couples looking for a funky looking small hatchback with a capable engine.

Even models with long legs, like the one Opel chose for this photo shoot, might see themselves driving such a car. It’s definitely more of a fashion statement than a practical one, despite the decent performance which is what appeals to most of us.

Speaking of which, its top speed of 210 km/h is exactly what the previous generation 150 HP turbocharged Corsa GSi was capable of. The Corsa GSi was a bit quicker to 100 km/h by almost half a second though.

As for its interior features, the ADAM ROCKS S can be fitted with the optional Advanced Park Assists which identifies suitable parking spaces at speeds below 30km/h and parks the car automatically. This system also comes with Side Blind Spot Alert, which is one of our favorite safety features on any type of car.

Last but not least, Opel’s IntelliLink infotainment system is also present, working together with your Android or Apple iOS smartphone in order to bring you excellent all-round connectivity.

The Opel ADAM ROCKS S is set to debut on April 17 at AutoRAI (International Amsterdam Motorshow).
