The Fiat 500, the new one, will soon be a styling icon of its own – it’s been around for almost a decade now and the manufacturer hasn’t felt the need to update it all that much. It’s got a selection of new engines and some new kit, but really you’re getting the same car you got in 2007.

CarBuyer tested the aging city car and while it’s still just as easy to drive as ever, being of course aimed at women with puny forearms, and just as useless at carrying more than two occupants and/or properly-sized bags; you still really can’t use this as a grand tourer, unless you remove the back seats and use the newly created space for suitcases.

However, you will feel a bit vulnerable on the highway, and the 500’s high speed cruising ability isn’t that brilliant; a VW Up! will trump it in this respect and so too will newer cars which have been slowly growing more and more refined.
