If you thought that a VW Passat saloon can’t become a genuine drift monster, get ready to be proven wrong by none other than Tanner Foust himself.

We saw glimpses of the car last month in the first official teaser, but we couldn’t really see it, let alone hear it roar as its rear tires did all the work.

Now we can. This is VW‘s one-off Formula Drift Passat and it features Rockstar livery, an APR Performance rear wing, KMC wheels and Nitto NT05 tires, to go along with its 900 HP (on nitrous). Off it, it’s “just” a 700 HP machine.

Back when we initially reported the 900 HP, we didn’t know they came with a catch – not that a 700 HP Passat would have sounded any less bonkers.

All this power now comes from a monstrous V8 engine, which is quite a change for anybody who is used to either driving or talking about the VW Passat in general.

This thing looks like it means serious business and we’re definitely looking forward to seeing it in action as soon as the Formula Drift season starts in Long Beach on April 10.
