Last month there were rumblings in the F1 world that Toro Rosso would be the top candidate in becoming Renault’s factory team, but its possible it won’t have to come to that.

There is no doubt about the fact that Renault are seriously considering returning to F1 with a Works Team, instead of just lingering as engine manufacturers for Red Bull and Toro Rosso.

Ferrari winning in Malaysia even went as far as to inspire Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul, which could have been all the motivation they needed in order to invest even more money, and challenge Mercedes with their own car.

However, Red Bull’s motorsport consultant Helmut Marko told F1.com that Renault feels “under-represented on the marketing side so there are considerations to either buy Toro Rosso or more likely give them a yellow livery to have a better marketing platform.”

Going with a yellow livery is very interesting, plus we have to admit, it’s not something we saw coming. Taking over Toro Rosso seemed logical, but getting them to change their Red Bull-inspired livery sounds more like a half-measure to us.

Still, if it were to happen, the Toro Rosso cars would become mostly yellow with black as the secondary color, which is how Renault F1 currently dresses their engineers.
