VW took the wraps off its new virtual car, the GTI Supersport Gran Turismo, destined for the popular driving game Gran Turismo 6.

After last week’s teaser, the pumped-up GTI concept makes its debut in the digital world and is now available to Gran Turismo players for downloading. Based on the Golf GTI, VW claims that the GTI Supersport is using a 503hp VR6 TSI engine, mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission, allowing it to hit 62mph from standing still in 3.6 seconds. Top speed is “over 186mph”.

All this power is transferred to the -virtual- road through a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with the GTI Supersport boasting a power-to-weight ratio of 2.5kg per hp due to the “widespread use of carbon elements”. Like last year’s roadster, the concept may retain the basic shape of the Golf GTI but now features a much angrier, wider bodywork littered with air-intakes, vertical light modules, a necessary huge rear diffuser and of course a roof-mounted spoiler.
