Zotye Brings Two Smart ForTwo Clones to Shanghai

The Smart ForTwo is one of the most copied cars in China, and this year’s Shanghai Auto Show proves that the city car remains as popular as ever in the Middle Kingdom.

Local automaker Zotye Auto has brought not one, but two Smart ForTwo clones: the E200 and E30 electric vehicles. The better-looking of the two cars is the E200, powered by an electric motor that produces a meager 24hp and 82Nm (60lb-ft) of torque.

As you can imagine, the Zotye E200 won’t break any speed records: it has a top speed of 80 km/h (50 mph), which means only the bravest of drivers will dare to take it beyond city limits. They will also be restrained by the E200’s driving range of 120 km (74 miles). The E200 will go on sale in China in the second half of the year, with a price starting at around 70,000 yuan (approximately $11,275), including subsidies.

As for the Zotye E30, it even sports a (fake) Tridion Cell like the Smart ForTwo, while the interior is a Tesla Model S rip-off dominated by a massive touchscreen display. The E30 shares the electric powertrain with the E200, but has a higher driving range of 150 km (93 miles).
