The amount of time and engineering that goes into a LMP1 car is immeasurable. For instance, Audi is perfecting their diesel engine-powered vehicles for almost a decade now, by competing in various endurance racing championships and in one of the most excruciating competition in the world: Le Mans.

To survive and win a 24-hour race, a car must be reliable, strong and painstakingly fast. We showcased you Audi’s latest weapon in the form of The 2015 R18 E-Tron Quattro. This is the car that Audi will race this year at Le Mans and it’s the latest showstopper in a long line of cars improved over the years to be as economically and fast as possible.

The R18 moves around the track like a mosquito, thanks to its negligible weight of only 1918 pounds (870 kilograms) combined with a total power output of 830 bhp. That means the power to weight ratio, when both the 4.0-litre V6 TDi and the electric motor are working, is 0.4bhp/pound. Oh, and the downforce it generates is simply mind boggling – the car stick on the track like glue.

Just look at the video and see for yourself. Mind you, the sounds the diesel V6 makes is not that bad either.
