Alfa Romeo has opened the UK order book for the lovely 4C Spider, the open-top version of its mid-engined carbon-fiber sports-car.

The transition from Coupe to Spider required minimal structural enhancements since it’s based on the same, super-stiff carbon tub and they include an aluminium rollover protection structure, a “specially-developed” carbon fibre windscreen frame and a cross-member made from high-strength steel for the engine compartment.

The engine is the same turbocharged 240hp 1750 TBi unit which propels the 4C Spider from zero to 60mph in less than 4.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 160mph. Alfa Romeo says that the Spider is able to generate the same 1.1g of lateral acceleration as the Coupe.

For those who prefer something else than the standard lightweight cloth roof, the Italian company will offer a carbon fibre hardtop as an option at a later date. The new covered xenon headlights which make the face of the small sports car much more lovable are offered as standard for the Spider but remain optional for the Coupe.

Another new addition on the options list is the carbon fibre air intake system which offers better transmission cooling for those who prefer to enjoy their cars on track-days while also new is the pastel Giallo Prototipo yellow paint option.

If you want to create a more special driving environment a set of new, premium leather with accent stitching and matching door cards will be offered later in the year. Alfa has also upgraded the audio system with a new Alpine head unit for better audio quality, usability and device connectivity.

Prices start at £59,500 with the standard equipment including the upgraded audio system, luxury floor mats, glove compartment upholstered in leather plus parking sensors and cruise control offered as free options.
