A Kiwi lad has taken Subaru’s “go anywhere, do anything” theme to the extreme with the creation of an amphibious Impreza hatch.

The custom-made car is listed for sale on New Zealand’s TradeMe auction site and has already met the reserve at…a mind-blowing $520.

You don’t need us to tell you that’s it’s not road legal, though according to the seller, it “probably would not take too much to cert the machine for road use I would imagine. Sea legs our main competitor boats are not road legal either but they still manage to sell maybe one or 2 more than us”.

In another comment on the site, the seller said: “The amphibian craft has had possibly more R and D budget than the titsanic, BBS boat, sea princess 1 and sea princess 2 all put together. The craft comes complete with all the mod cons of a car and also the extreme luxuries of a high end boat of which you can see on the you tube clip above. After months of perfecting the mixture, hull angles and prop pitch we have got the engine running at 7l per hour at trawl speed and 10l”

If you haven’t figured it out already, there’s plenty of gold in the Q&A section of the listing:

Q: Hi I was looking buying a yacht to sail to Australia in.but I thawt “why sail when I can drive” Would it make it and how many does it sleep

A: Definitely would make it, not quite cat 1 offshore capable with just a few more mods to get it there, It is mainly designed for game fishing and party cruises something you could perhaps run out of the viaduct ion Auckland for the highfalutin suit and tie type folk. so no outriggers included in auction

Q: hi, you interested in swapping for a floating couch?, 3 seater, sitting on 6 inner tubes, side mount chilly bin, needs to be towed by a tinny.

A: Sounds really nice but got no tinny to tow it with since we are getting rid of our pride and joy and to be honest main purpose in life. If you throw in a 5.5 surtees with a 100 hp Honda 4 stroke on it – complete with a ray marine 3kw commercial sounder and compatible GPS unit, auto pilot, tuna tubes, game rigged, dual axel trailer with stainless calipers and stainless rotors warrant less than 1 month old , rego less than 2 months old on a 12 month term. Actually make it a 6.1 surtees with all

Q: I saw this and it totally reminded me of The Spy Who Loved Me. Does it have any other Bond style gadgets, as well as the ambhibiousness? 🙂

A: Definitely the Subaru AM2015 is loaded with extras, beer can holders, spud gun(not included in auction),German secretary, wheel jack etc etc. its not about what the car can do at this point its about what the car cant do – after driving back to waiuku after the absbfc2015 at gulf harbour stopped at a wild bean cafe to collect a nz herald and found the Subaru on the front page quickly dougy downed his soy latte caramel swirl hold the fluff abused the staff member for his coffee not being at the
