Citroen celebrates 60 years since the world first saw a DS with the birthday also signifying the global launch of the DS brand.

The so-called DS Week starts today at Paris and will run through to May 24, featuring numerous events like the huge DS Exhibition in the Tuileries garden and the 700-car parade along the Champs- Élysées.

The Citroen DS was first launched in 1955, becoming one of the most recognizable design icons on the planet, featuring out-of-the-box thinking from the ground up. As of June 1, DS will stand alone as a separate, avant-garde brand, offering premium models only.

“We are building the DS brand today by drawing our inspiration from the outstanding heritage of the historic DS. The legendary car upholds the values of innovation, excellence and avant-garde – values that we have made our own”, Yves Bonnefont, CEO of the DS brand said. “We aim to perpetuate the story and ensure that these two letters continue to embody French know-how in luxury automobiles around the world and for a long time to come.”

The DS Exhibition is set right next to the Louvre with general entry to be free during the weekend. The gathering of the classic DS models will be held at the Linas-Montlhéry race track on Saturday 23 May with the 700 cars to make the journey to Paris on Sunday for the big parade.
