Daimler announced it will invest €750 million ($834 million) in its Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen, northern Germany, as it plans to build two new models there.

The investment will be used to modernize the plant which currently manufactures the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. In the future, the Bremen facility will assemble the next-generation C-Class, along with two additional models.

Daimler didn’t say which new models it plans to build in Bremen, but according to reports from Germany one of them could be the GLC Coupe which goes on sale next year as a rival for the BMW X4.

Daimler said the investment will secure the future of Bremen as the main production site for the C-Class, which is also built in East London (South Africa), Beijing (China) and Tuscaloosa (Alabama, USA).

The Bremen plant currently builds three C-Class body styles (the sedan, wagon, and soon-to-be-replaced coupe), as well as the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, GLK SUV, SL and SLK sports cars.

The facility built 340,000 vehicles last year, making it the second-biggest Mercedes plant globally after Sindelfingen in southern Germany. Daimler’s investment in the plant will include the full networking of all processes and digital planning, as well as an improvement in cooperation between workers and robots. As part of the investment, the company will hire 500 new workers at the Bremen plant.
