More On Audi’s F1 Ambitions; Could Join Forces With Red Bull

Audi has been rumored to be looking into entering the world of Formula One, but it has so far not made any definitive statements on the matter. We do know they are considering it, but as things currently stand, it sounds like the decision could go either way.

AutoExpress obtained the information regarding the possible collaboration between Red Bull and Audi, and it may even be a deciding factor for the former’s continued presence in F1.

The publication spoke with Audi chairman, Rupert Stadler, who said he “can’t say yes or no.” That sounds like they’re leaning more towards yes, as they would have otherwise flatly denied the rumors.

According to Helmut Marko, Red Bull Racing’s motorsport adviser, if they “don’t have a competitive engine in the near future, then either Audi is coming or we are out.”

According to the source report, Audi could also steer itself closer towards Formula E, as it’s been rumored to leave the German Touring Masters (the DTM) championship as well as Le Mans.

Audi was reportedly close to coming to F1 back in 2012, when they were proposing a four-cylinder turbo engine for the sport. Apparently, sources are now saying the automaker is again working on an engine for this application, this time a 1.6-liter V6 turbo, as per the latest version of the rulebook.
