With 231PS (228hp) and 320Nm (236lb-ft) of torque from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol, the 2015 Mini John Cooper Works hatch is the most powerful production model ever.

While power in itself is great (the new Mini JCW hatch has 10 percent more power and 23 percent more torque than its predecessor), it takes more than that for a Mini to be worthy of the John Cooper Works badge.

Sure, the car is fast (0-100 km/h or 62 mph  in 6.3 seconds with the manual, 6.1 seconds with the automatic), but equally important is how the driver feels while driving it.

XCar’s Alex Goy wanted to check if the 2015 Mini JCW hatch deserves the John Cooper Works badge and wasn’t disappointed. The engine delivers an exhilarating noise, it has ridiculous amounts of grip (especially in Sport mode) and it’s a little uncomfortable. Yes, it’s a true JCW.
