Peugeot will debut new self-driving systems on its next 508 replacement in a move to compete better in the segment.

PSA is seeking ways of boost Peugeot’s image, giving a more upmarket feel in its future models. Carlos Tavares, PSA’s CEO said that the new driver assistance systems will be a step closer to fully autonomous driving.

A spokesman from the company said that the new 508 will offer hands-free steering and automated braking control in heavy traffic situations, among the usual electronic assistance for highways and parking without providing more info.

The new generation of Peugeot’s 508 is expected to be launched in 2017 and will be based on the EMP2 modular platform.
