An off-duty Army Captain from Fort Bragg in a…Captain America t-shirt is making headlines after being filmed rescuing a couple trapped inside a vehicle that was engulfed in flames.

The real-life Captain America in question is U.S. Army Capt. Steve Voglezon who was on his way to visit his girlfriend when he came upon the scene of a horrific head-on collision in Chatham County, North Carolina, this past Sunday.

In one of the cars, William Thompson, 67, and his wife, Kathleen, 63, were trapped inside. Neighbors had already arrived at the scene before the firefighters, but it was Voglezon who jumped into action.

“I grabbed one of the fire extinguishers and we smashed out on the back window and the driver’s side window,” he told ABC News. “There wasn’t a real plan, I just had tunnel vision. If I had not been a soldier, I would not have known what to do. The Army has helped a lot,” he said.

Fortunately, and despite some injuries, all people involved in the accident made it out alive.

“I was just at the right place at the right time,” said Voglezon. “People do this every day at the fire department. I wasn’t alone out there, there were at least 10 of us in the community working together.”
