VW Tiguan Gets More Powerful Diesels, New Infotainment Systems

The current generation VW Tiguan is nearing the end of its lifecycle, with a new model expected to debut in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show before arriving in global markets next year.

Until then, VW refreshes its smallest SUV with a new generation of engines as well as new radio and navigation systems.

From now on, the Tiguan’s 2.0-liter diesel engines get more power. The output of the 140PS (138hp) unit has been increased to 150PS (148hp), while the 177PS (174hp) version has been boosted to 184PS (181hp).

At the same time, CO2 emissions have been reduced by up to 17 g/km, with all the engines from the Tiguan lineup now complying with the EU6 emissions standard.

VW has also upgraded the Tiguan in terms of infotainment, with the SUV getting the latest generation of the modular infotainment matrix. The previous radio systems have been replaced by Composition Colour and Composition Media – with features including color touchscreen, eight loudspeakers and a variety of connections for external devices.

The VW Tiguan is now available with the Discover Media radio navigation system, which comes with the Volkswagen online services package Guide & Inform as standard. Both the Composition Media and Discover Media can be ordered with App Connect as an option.

The feature enables the integration and use of a wide range of smartphone apps from the Google and Apple Stores. There is also the option of adding Media Control, a new app-based extension of the infotainment system which allows to easily control functions from a tablet even by rear-seat passengers.
