If you thought the Passat was a poor choice for a ‘drifter’, watching Tanner go tail-happy in it might help change your mind.

In a preview of the USA Cycling Time Trials, Rockstar had Formula Drift star Tanner Foust take U.S Cycling champion Tim Johnson for a little (and very exciting) spin.

So far, we had seen pictures and a video teaser but now we really got to see the 900 HP V-Dub at work. If you remember from our last post, this V8 car is “only” good for about 700 HP – the extra 200 HP come via a nitrous oxide system.

The 4-speed G-Force GSR transmission helps put all that power down through the rear wheels, making this a pretty good Formula Drift car. We can’t imagine them choosing this car without a plan to get it as drift-ready as possible.

Judging from the footage, this thing looks really fast, and not just going sideways. It also looks like it accelerates really hard, which is something you can examine as they’re pulling away from the stationary police cruisers (around the 2 min mark).

The only problem one might have with the Passat is that it wouldn’t be as easy to drift through a tight obstacle course as say…the ones Ken Block tackles regularly.

What do you guys think?
