According to Rob Smedley, Williams’ Head of Vehicle Performance, the team will improve considerably in Austria with the arrival of a major upgrade.

After a very poor performance in Monaco, where the only thing worse than Massa and Bottas’ qualifying spots was their result once the checkered flag got waved, Williams is now looking forward to dominating the faster circuits.

And lucky them, three very fast tracks are on the horizon in Montreal, Austria and Silverstone – though we’ll wait until we can see it in order to believe it.

While discussing the upgrades, Smedley said that “we’ve some coming in Canada. They should be really healthy, from lots of different areas really. Then we’ve quite a big package coming for Austria, and without going into details that’s going to be a really healthy step.”

Without any hints about what this “big package” could be, we can only speculate. Though their car does handle itself better on fast tracks, which was also the case last year as Smedley also pointed out.

“In Canada last year we were really quick and in Britain, that was the part of the season where we started to come into our own, getting podiums and scoring lots of points. So the next three races I’m really confident about.”

Williams have insisted that what happened in Monaco is sure not to happen again this season and it’s hard to argue against it.

Besides, there aren’t any more slow circuits in the calendar, unless you count Singapore as being a slow one. We doubt they’ll bounce back and take 2nd place in the Constructors Standings away from Ferrari, but they should be able to secure 3rd place since Red Bull are still struggling for pace.
