As far as excellent all-rounders go, I think not even the VW Golf is able to beat the Ford Focus, regardless of which body style you want. The latest Focus estate is easily one of the best estates in the class, and thanks to the recent facelift it finally puts the angry walrus face to rest.

The interior is improved over the previous generation too, and while it’s not an all-new car, as Ford’s marketing department would like to have you believe, they have addressed the main niggles reported with its predecessor.

If you wan to see how good it is, then do check out this praise-filled review by CarBuyer. It seems everybody likes the Focus these days, and since the estate offers 50 percent more space than the hatch, without compromising its fabled driving dynamics, it sounds like a good buy.

Oh, and if you are interested in buying one and are thinking of going for a diesel, do try the new 1.5-liter turbo petrols as they are excellent and quite frugal too…
