2016 Cadillac models will get enhanced connectivity with the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as new features and a faster operation for the CUE infotainment system.

The first to arrive will be Apple CarPlay, which will debut in 2016 Cadillac models featuring CUE’s 8-inch multi-touch screen, except the SRX Crossover, which will be replaced by an all-new model in early 2016. Android Auto will be available at later date during the 2016 model year, which begins this summer.

Cadillac CUE will allow owners to access both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, with a “Projection” icon on the CUE screen enabling access to key smartphone functions, including navigation, contacts, hands-free text messaging and select applications supported by Apple or Google.

Many features can be controlled via voice commands through a steering wheel button, which means drivers will spend more time with eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. Both phone integration systems require the phone to be connected via USB.

Besides the improved in-car phone integration, all 2016 will get a more powerful processor for the CUE system for a faster system start-up, voice recognition, navigation searches, and media playing.

Cadillac says the navigation system now features a simplified control structure for easier destination entry and quicker destination searches, while map screens have been redesigned for easier use.

Finally, on Escalade, CTS and XTS, the Cadillac CUE screen will add Surround Vision, a 360-degree view of the vehicle’s perimeter.
