Our latest round of spy shots brings the facelifted version of the Mercedes-Benz SLK, which will be renamed the SLC, into focus. The new nomenclature is part of a plan from Mercedes to place a greater emphasis on the brand’s core model lines, more on which you can read here in our previous post.

The scoops point to some light revisions to the former SLK’s fascia with a redesigned grille, a rounder bumper, and tweaked headlamps, along with a reprofiled bumper at the back, and by the time it reaches production, a freshening of the tail lamp graphics.

Some minor changes will probably take place inside with new colors, the latest iteration of Benz’s infotainment system and styling tweaks to the dashboard.

Oddly, the mild cosmetic facelift and renaming of the German roadster will come only a few months after the mechanical update that was announced in April and which included a new 204PS (201hp) 2.1-liter diesel for the SLK 250d, a new 184PS (181hp) 1.8-liter turbo petrol for the SLK 200 and a new 245PS (242hp) 2.0-liter turbo petrol for the SLK 300.

Mercedes also introduced new transmissions, including a 6-speed manual with tighter and more precise shifts for the SLK 200, while the SLK 300 and SLK 250d gained a 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic as standard, with the same box offered as an option on the SLK 200.

You may have noticed that the prototype we scooped had a four-pipe exhaust layout, which leads us to believe that this could be the new SLC 450 AMG Sport model fitted with the same 362hp (367PS) 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 from the C450 AMG Sport, and which would be positioned under the SLC 55 AMG with at least 415hp.
