I hope that you have already seen our leaked images of Alfa’s all-new Giulia, and now that we have finally a first impression after years of renderings and speculations, we can start the debate slowly but steadily.

This is after all, the car that was reportedly sent back to the drawing board repeatedly by none other than FCA boss Sergio Marchionne. Our leaked images do not reveal the front end of it, but we can get a pretty good glimpse of the rest of the sports sedan until tomorrow’s official reveal.

The car in the leaked images is probably the most potent version of the range, called the Quadrifoglio Verde which would justify the quad exhaust pipes, the rear spoiler and the big alloys and according to reports, it’s going to use a twin-turbo 3.0-litre Ferrari-derived V6, possibly delivering as much as 500hp, mated to a manual gearbox.

Now, although I think it looks good enough, it seems to me that some of the lines are too familiar already in the class. Perhaps this is partly because my expectations were a bit too high, especially after we kept hearing that Alfa has been designing this car over and over again for so long. And I’m not entirely convinced about those rear lights either.

So, here are a few cars that gave me goose bumps, most of them from the segment Alfa wants to rule, with no specific order. Mazda 6, Infiniti Q50, Jaguar XE along with the bigger Maserati Ghibli, which belongs to the next segment, and Giulia’s predecessors, the 159 and 156.

What do you think? Is this the Alfa we’ve been waiting for so long?

Note: Before some of you start sending hateful comments about my idiotic opinion and ignorance, let me just say that in my garage sits a proud, ugly, well-driven and a bit rusty Alfa Romeo 75 that has been in the family for almost 30 years. To say that I’m excited of Alfa returning back in the RWD era is a huge understatement.
