The new Citroen C4 Cactus is proof that the French automaker, despite losing some identity and quirkiness over the years, is still capable of churning out interesting and funky designs.
That skill could be put to good use for the rumored Mehari revival model, designed to look like the beach and / or dune loving classic.
Autonews Europe quotes Linda Jackson, Citroen CEO, who said “maybe there is a place for the Mehari. It’s something we are considering.” She went on to explain that a new Mehari could be built atop a supermini platform, just like the classic which used 2CV underpinnings.
Jackson denied that the company has any interest in reviving the deux chevaux, and we totally get why – they’re in a joint venture with Toyota to create a mini-city car. Had they been developing a vehicle to fill that niche on their own, maybe they would have considered it; Renault is using its iconic 5 as a design base, so why shouldn’t Citroen?
