After Hennessey boss John Hennessey failed to break the 200 mph or 322 km/h barrier in a Ford Mustang V8 fitted with one of their HPE700 kits, they decided to try again with an even more powerful kit.

That first run topped out at 195 mph, but now with the HPE750 kit, maximum speed went up to 208 mph or 335 km/h. Hennessey says sixty comes up in 3.4 seconds, thanks to a whopping 774 hp from the 5.0-liter V8, helped by a 2.9-liter supercharger.

The attempt took place on the he Continental Tire Proving Grounds in Uvalde, Texas – it features an 8.5 mile / 13.6 km oval perfect for such a run.

The video posted below is basically a teaser for a more detailed one set to be uploaded on Jay Leno’s Garage soon. It has footage from the run itself, and, at one point, of Jay extracting himself from the car, as well as some commentary; it’s posted after the virtual jump.
