Her Majesty The Queen is well known for owning a Land Rover Defender she occasionally drives in the countryside. But Queen Elizabeth II recently used a one-off car made by Land Rover, a Range Rover State Review vehicle.

The fourth State Review vehicle from Land Rover made its debut in Cardiff, where Her Majesty The Queen presented New Colours to the Royal Welsh Regiment, as the British monarch is Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment.

Based on a long wheelbase Range Rover, the new State Review vehicle features a diesel hybrid engine, which enables it to run at times purely on electric power.

The car was designed by Land Rover Design and engineered by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations department. The vehicle’s rear passenger area has an open top so that HM The Queen can stand while saluting her subjects.

The new hybrid model replaces the previous Range Rover State Review vehicle, which dates from 2002. The first Land Rover State Review vehicle was a 1953 Land Rover Series 1.

Jaguar Land Rover is the only automotive company to hold all three Royal Warrants, from HM The Queen, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh and HRH The Prince of Wales. The company also recently received a 2015 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, for reducing the environmental impact of its products and its operations.
