If you’re a fan of car video games, you probably knew about the Mazda MX-5 Challenge, which promised a brand new 2016 MX-5 to the gamer who won the tournament in Forza Horizon 2.

Well, Mazda and Xbox kept their word and gave a Miata to the winner of the Mazda MX-5 Challenge, David Goss of Missouri. He won the tournament at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, where he defeated Colton Miller of Indiana.

However, Mazda had a big surprise for the finalist, giving Miller a 2016 Mazda MX-5 too!

“We’d like to say congratulations to David and Colton as we know they spent many hours behind the ‘virtual wheel’ leading up to E3 in anticipation of the big race,” said Eric Watson, director of marketing for Mazda North American Operations. “They both spent so much time preparing for this event that we didn’t want one of them going home empty handed,” the executive explained the unexpected gesture.

Starting from March 2015, the Mazda MX-5 Challenge gave players the opportunity to compete for their very own 2016 MX-5. After downloading the car through the free Mazda MX-5 Car Pack in Forza Horizon 2, players had to play in the appropriate ‘Rival Mode’ event on the Sisteron Perimeter Sprint Track. The two players with the fastest times were flown to Los Angeles to compete in a winner-take-all race.
