You can understand why older Mercedes two-doors would be popular: they look classy, they’re luxurious and they’re only a small fraction of their original price.

This slightly tweaked SL55 AMG has 600 hp with minimal mods and beats most new cars for the price.

What you gain in luxury and performance, you lose on the technology and modernity front. A car like the SL55 is still contemporary, although it’s clearly a product of mid-1990s design ideals, both inside and out.

If you take all of that into account and still want one, check out Matt Farah’s review for TST. He likes it a lot bar the very slow-to-change gearbox and the antiquated infotainment.

You can probably pick one up in Germany or the States for under €20,000 / $22,400.
