To this day, the first-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS remains more desirable in my book than the current model, which I find as trying too hard to please in the design department.

Since Mercedes-Benz is getting ready to launch an all-new E-Class, it’s only natural that the CLS will be redesigned too, as the sedan and the four-door coupe share the same platform.

For the moment, we don’t know what to expect from the third-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS from a design point of view. But a little speculation never hurt anyone, and these two renderings from Photoshop manipulator Remco Meulendijk offer an interesting interpretation.

He believes the new CLS will get Mercedes’ new “upside down” grille, which has debuted on the new Mercedes-AMG GT3 and will be featured on the facelifted SL roadster as well.

The car may feature an even lower profile and ditch the current model’s oversized rear wheel arches. If you ask me, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
