The first edition of “Parco Valentino – Salone & Gran Premio” opened last weekend in Italy’s car capital city, Turin, where Torino Design unveiled the Wildtwelve hybrid supercar.

As the name suggests, this automotive event took place outdoors, in “Parco del Valentino”, near Castello del Valentino – an UNESCO World Heritage Site with stunning surroundings. The park itself hosted Italy’s first car show in April 21st, 1900, while from 1935 to 1955 it was the stage for some notable Grand Prix races.

But we’re not going to talk about the event with its bohemian vibe which resembles a Concours d’Elegance, because we’re more concentrated on this mid-engine supercar that Torino Design brought to the exposition.

Capable of a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 Mph) in 2.6 seconds and a top speed of 390 km/h (242 Mph), the car was purposefully named Wildtwelve.

“Wild”, because of its performance figures and “twelve” due to the beast which animates it: a 3.8-litre V12 mated to the powertrain alongside two electric motors in charge of the front wheels. This combination sends a total output of 860 PS and 918 NM of torque (677 ft.lb) to all fours.

Although it’s just a prototype of a high-range super-sport vehicle, this carbon fiber automobile will eventually be assembled in a very limited series at the former Bugatti factory, in Campogalliano (the birth place of the EB110) – or at least, that’s what the design company says – for the ATS brand that has been acquired by a group of Italian investors.

You will have to excuse our skepticism, but nowadays every other brand-new, low-volume car manufacturer comes up with an outrageous supercar to entice the 8-year-old in all of us and attract attention.

ATS seems to make no exceptions, but actually, it does. The original “Automobili Turismo e Sport” was founded in 1965 by Carlo Chiti and Giotto Bizzarrini, two of the most legendary automotive engineers. Of course, nowadays the car company has nothing to do with the one established almost 50 years ago, but it’s nice to see an old marque revived and continuing living amongst us.
