Less is more, or at least that’s Volvo’s new philosophy.

The Swedes really know how to construct automobiles. Even Saab, which had to work with Opel platforms, managed to create something sought after. The Scandinavian simplicity and straightforwardness was always their key selling point. Cars seemed honest, without even trying too much; you’d always get what you paid for and probably a little more in between.

Now, it seems Volvo is trying to get back to its roots. According to Automotive News, Hakan Samuelsson – Volvo’s CEO – stated that “Volvo will make less complexity a selling point against its German premium rivals “

He continued saying that 55 and 37 represent the number of buttons available in some German car models, as opposed to the eight buttons the new XC90 carries.

Well, we can’t agree more – too many buttons can spoil the interior’s looks (but sometimes, switches and knobs make everything a little bit cooler). Still, we’re thinking that in the near future, with the use of touch screen and motion-sensor technology, the cars will begin to feature less buttons and more sci-fi technology.

But until then, Volvo is on a war to reduce buttons as Hakan Samuelsson went on: “No one wants buttons hidden down in the dark areas around the seats”.

Pesky buttons, always getting in the way! Well, not anymore! Meanwhile, let’s count all the actual buttons in the XC90’s interior, because we’re fairly sure it has more than 8.
