If you can’t wait for the official Mad Max open world game to come out, but you still like the idea of vehicular combat, then why not have a look at Convoy?
It’s a simple top-down perspective game about on the same graphics quality level with Grand Theft Auto 2, although for this style of game that’s not a negative.
The premise is that you have to roam around a mysterious planet where you were forced to land your massive malfunctioning space ship. What you need to do in the game is drive a small convoy around the large map, gathering whatever parts you need for the ship.
You can customize which accompanying vehicles protect your main transport in the convoy by choosing their weapon combination. Then, when you come across hostiles on the map, it moves to a closer tactical view which is probably the game’s piece de resistance.
The vehicular combat is not action oriented, although it looks like frantic fun, being more of a tactical experience where you pause the game, think for a bit then issue an order.
It all looks like fun, especially for those ahem more mature gamers out there who value clever mechanics above eye candy.
