The new Renault Talisman is the most German car the French have ever created. If you can’t beat them, join them.

Renault wants to set a high standard of quality with its new, mid-sized sedan and that’s why the French car manufacturer asked Daimler for help. Knowing that the automobile will have some fierce competition, the company went to great lengths in order to make the Talisman “flawless” and in tone with its Teutonic rivals.

Even Laurens van den Acker – Renault’s design boss – stated that the mid-size sedan was designed with quality in mind. The automaker paid close attention to the car’s build quality, in order to make sure that it matches (or even surpasses) that of the competition. But it needed German expertise to build a German car.

So, according to Automotive News, a panel of German experts from Daimler was invited to the Douai plant in France – where the Talisman is built – in order to examine quality control and perceived quality. This is not the first time Renault and Daimler collaborate, as the two companies have been working together since 2010 on various joint-ventures.

The brand-new Talisman hasn’t got any Daimler components, but it has the German stamp of approval – the only thing missing from past French cars.
