Since the first reveal, the Porsche Boxster Spyder was instantly classified as one of the most anticipated weapons of the year.

After the noise created by the Cayman GT4, Porsche threw the Boxster Spyder into the arena, using some of the same bits with the GT4 like the 3.8-litre flat-six engine slightly de-tuned to 370hp and leaving some other bits out, like the GT3-derived suspension and the extensive aero-agenda.

The Boxster Spyder may lack the trick chassis of the Cayman GT4, but according to Porsche, it is slightly lighter when compared to its fixed-roof brother (1315kg to 1340kg respectively), which in theory should make it a bit more agile and fun on the road. Auto Express delivers its first verdict on Porsche’s latest, and their outcome confirms our expectations.

No one can deny the sheer cleverness of Porsche’s latest moves to offer not one but two different manual hardcore versions of its Boxster/Cayman platform. Given that the Cayman GT4 has already attracted huge interest from the buyers, the Boxster Spyder is destined for glory, just like its brother.
