As competitive as the compact executive segment may be, we’ll always welcome new challengers to the mix, even if all they’ll face is an uphill battle.

Even though this is as unofficial as possible, a potential compact executive model from Hyundai is definitely something that’s being considered – according to Hyundai Motor America CEO, Dave Zuchowski.

As we all know, the Genesis is a very well-rounded car which could help pave the way for a pretty impressive 3 Series/A4/C-Class rival in the near future. Naturally, we’d prefer it to be RWD, but AWD versions should exist as well.

Hyundai have done quite well for themselves with the Genesis, building a car that features rain-sensing wipers with auto defogging, remote starting, individual tire indicator and of course my favorite, the CO2 sensor.

Making a smaller version of the Genesis could potentially be an excellent idea, especially since you don’t necessarily need to be as sporty as the 3 Series or as elegant as the C-Class in order to have some success in this segment.

The Jaguar XE, Lexus IS and Alfa Romeo Giulia are all, in theory, still outsiders trying to break through the German trio’s wall.

If Hyundai’s offering would look anything like this rendering (which is just a slightly smaller Genesis), I reckon people would still be pretty impressed. Actually, maybe very impressed, if they did something to improve on that front end.
