Even though we don’t always agree with Mercedes’ design choices, we doubt anybody would be in favor of a smaller 3-door GLC any time soon.

As good as the GLC may end up being, Mercedes would never risk disrupting their image just because a few people scattered across the world might be in favor of a more silly looking version of the car.

Is it wrong to call it silly? I can’t seem to come up with a better term for what this car is – or what it would be if Mercedes would actually build it.

But rest assured, it’s just a rendering. The designer chose to keep the front and the rear identical to what you see on the 5 door model, while shortening the wheelbase and enlarging the doors ever so slightly.

Even if there would be nothing wrong (practically) with a 3-door GLC, the SUV market is definitely going in a completely different direction. Nowadays, a small sporty premium SUV for young and active people is something like the GLA (technically a crossover), which also happens to look pretty good.

If you’re interested in switching from Mercedes to something else, you can also consider an Audi Q3 or the all-new BMW X1. Sure, these cars are all smaller than the GLC, but keep in mind this rendering is of a hypothetical short wheelbase version.

Bottom line, a good digital effort as always, but hopefully something like this never, ever, sees the light of day.
