Renault’s ZOE supermini and their urban-oriented Twizy have both received updated trim levels, creating a more uniform grading structure across the line-up.

The ZOE’s new, in-house developed electric motor with longer range capabilities, called the R240, will be found in the Expression Nav and Dynamique Nav versions, while the Dynamique Nav Rapid Charge retains its original power unit.

Purchasing an entry-level Expression Nav model will mean that you get to enjoy standard R-Link voice-controlled sat-nav, a 7″ tablet touchscreen, climate control, a Renault key card, Bluetooth, 4x20W radio with four speakers, USB & AUX ports, cruise control, front electric windows and rear privacy glass.

Go for the Dynamique Nav version and you’ll get a hands-free key card, rear parking camera, Z.E Interactive (remote battery charging, remote charge scheduling and remote interior temperature pre-conditioning), Arkamys 3D digital sound, rear electric windows, bespoke upholstery, leather-rimmed steering wheel and gear shifter, 16″ alloys as well as automatic lights and wipers.

As for the Dynamique Nav Rapid Charge, it can be recharged to 80% capacity in just 30 min through a 43kW charge port.

On paper, the R240 power unit is good for a class-leading 149 miles (239 km) NEDC (New European Driving Cycle), which we all know is rather hard to replicate in real life conditions. Just like with petrol or diesel powered cars.

According to Renault, this engine gives the ZOE a real-world range of 71 miles (114 km) to 106 miles (170 km), depending of course on a couple of internal and external factors such as using the air conditioning and other electrical features, driving style, weather season and so on.

Now on to the Twizy where Expression replaces the former Urban spec version, giving its driver solid standard features, though not as good as the Dynamique version which comes with 13″ Gloss Black/Flame Orange/Urban Blue Diamond alloys, and a choice of 14 two-tone color collections for the wheel arches, seat covers and mirror housings.

The Twizy can also be bought as a “Cargo” model without a rear seat, giving the driver 180 liters of (lockable) storage space – which should be OK for urban deliveries, carrying small equipment and tools.
