These are the first spy photos of the next-generation Audi A4 Allroad Quattro that’s expected to debut in 2016, possibly at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

While Audi hasn’t opened its cards on whether it will offer the upcoming A4 Avant in North America to rival BMW’s 3-Series Touring, it’s almost certain that its more rugged spinoff, the Allroad, will continue to be offered on this side of the Atlantic, either as a 2016MY or a 2017MY, depending on when it goes on sale.

The A4 Allroad takes the next A4 Avant station-wagon body-style and adds the accoutrements of an SUV, such as flared fenders, more prominent side sills, and a taller ride height. We can’t see it in the pictures, but under all that camouflage you should find additional cladding around the modified bumpers, while the production car will also get a unique front grille, large alloy wheels and silver roof rails.

Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system will be fitted as standard, with the engine range to be sourced from the recently announced 2016 A4 sedan, including 2.0-liter turbo diesel and petrol four-pots, and a V6 diesel in Europe. In the USA, the current Allroad is offered exclusively with a 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine, but Audi could (and probably should) add a TDI diesel to the range.
