The new Shelby GT350 and GT350R come with a customizable light cluster that tells you when to shift gears.

In order to achieve its track-oriented credentials, Shelby’s newest hardcore Mustang comes with various racing-inspired elements to aid the driver and help reduce lap times. One of those components is the Performance Shift Light Indicator display with Track, Tach and Drag mode.

The whole rig may sound high-tech, but it’s actually a light shift indicator head-up display that flashes in various ways when it’s time to change gears. The idea comes from racing cars (naturally), as racing drivers often require visual stimuli to help them optimize gear changes during intense on-track hot-laps.

The Light indicator is positioned in front of the driver and it can be controlled through the driver information centre. Furthermore, the customers can set sift points at any given RPM, light intensity and can select different track modes.

That’s cool and all, but what’s wrong with shifting gears by ear? – You may ask. Well, the system lets you fine tune and select the lights to flash at the desired RPM, thus optimizing gear changes when the car reaches its horsepower or torque peak for a perfect drive around the track. This equipment is standard for both the 350 and the 350R.
