The effect you’ll see in the video posted within could have been achieved using 3D animation tools, but here it’s actually real images of a motorbike engine being filed down, the process being captured using stop motion techniques.

Through it, you not only get a close look at the inner workings of engines, but you get to see the different layers and how each one looks. In the end, it’s not necessarily as much educational as it is an artistic exercise, and in that respect it’s a really rather beautiful thing to see.

It’s proof that ‘magic’ stands a much better chance of making its presence felt if you work with your hands on a real object, instead of trying to simulate it in a computer.
