China may often be making automotive headlines for the wrong reasons, but it does occasionally show some actual engineering brilliance. These fold-able parking cocoons originate in the People’s Republic, but are all the rage in some other Middle Eastern or Asian nations as well.

Not all have electric motors like this one, which you can keep deployed to protect your personal home spot clear of unwanted punters. Then, when you come home you can fold it away at the push of a button (or possibly smartphone), drive your car in, get out, lock it then have the canopy come over the car to hide it.

It’s a really neat idea if you feel like it would actually benefit you, say if you regularly parked under molting trees or angry birds.

These solutions have been around for a few years, but they are now gaining tech and becoming smarter and easier to use.
