You may remember that the folks from Consumer Reports didn’t have a pleasant experience with the Tesla Model S P85D when they bought it because of faulty door handles.

However, that issue has been fixed and now they can focus on putting the Model S to various tests. Their latest video with the range-topping P85D was filmed on their private circuit, where they put the electric sedan through three key tests: handling, braking and 0-60 mph acceleration.

Equipped with the optional 21-inch wheel package, the P85D completed the avoidance maneuver with an average of 55.5 mph (89.3 km/h).

In the braking tests, the Model S P85D needed 118 feet (35.9 meters) to go from 60 mph (96 km/h) to standstill on a dry surface (129 ft/39.3 m in the wet).

CR’s verdict? The Tesla delivers sports car performance both in terms of handling and braking. As for the acceleration test, the consumer magazine measured the P85D going from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds – four tenths slower than the manufacturer’s claim. Even so, it’s a fantastic number for a sedan this size and it makes the Model S P85D the quickest car ever tested by Consumer Reports.
