Dirt Rally aims to be the best rally simulation out there, and while it’s still debatable if it’s going to suceed, they are adding to and improving the game constantly.

Most recently, developer Codemasters released a big update for the game, this time introducing an all-new way to play – rallycross. This style of racing, if you don’t already know, involves six specially prepared all-wheel drive rally cars battling it out on a part-tarmac, part-gravel track.

Each track has two available routes, one of which is longer and each driver must drive it at least once during a race – it’s called the joker lap and it kind of works as the pit stop in longer races; it can cause unexpected position changes and generally adds to the excitement reserved for this motoring discipline.

The atmosphere of such races is nicely recreated in Dirt Rally, and judging by what we understand so far about the title, it’s not the last race type they will add. They’re also committed to adding more tracks and cars as general development progresses – don’t forget this title is still far from finished.
