DS Automobiles has just announced the creation of their motor sport division DS Performance, based at the future PSA Excellence Center in Satory.

The program itself is directed by Yves Matton (successful in WRC and WTCC), while its engineers have already developed the whole drivetrain (electric motor and gearbox) of the DSV-01 electric race car.

DS Performance has also designed the cooling system, rear suspension and transmission, whereas the motor management system was designed together with Magneti Marelli.

The newly established motor sport division will support DS Virgin Racing in the upcoming Formula E season, helping both Sam Bird as well as Jean-Eric Vergne to get the best out of their race cars.

“More than a simple R&D laboratory, DS Performance will stand as a true showcase of the technological expertise and avant-garde spirit of the DS brand. It was a natural move for us to call on Yves Matton and his teams, multiple WRC and WTCC world champions, to develop the all-electric DSV-01 race car,” said Yves Bonnefont, CEO of DS Automobiles.

Speaking of the new Formula E season, ahead of their first race, the DS Virgin Racing team has unveiled a new livery design – set to be showcased by drivers Bird & Vergne during final pre-season testing at Donington Park August 24 and 25.

The new design integrates both DS Automobiles and Virgin color schemes, while maintaining the distinctive red and chrome features from last season, including the purple battery cover.

Here’s what Sam Bird had to say about the new livery: “Last season we had the best car on the grid visually and so to have another great livery design for season two is brilliant. Formula E cars look fantastic as a basic starting point, but I feel that we have again taken it to another level with this season’s livery.”
