On loan to the Lake Illawarra Local Area Command, this V8-powered super-estate will serve as a promotional tool, helping the force to better engage with the community.

If that sounds a little odd, it’s probably because whenever we head about any police department getting their hands on a supercar, they do it so that nobody can get away from them during high speed pursuits on the highway.

In this case however, this Aussie PD intends to use the RS4 to “encourage people of all ages to introduce themselves to local police, using the car itself to help start up a conversation,” said Lake Illawarra LAC Commander Superintendent Wayne Starling. “A community that is engaged with Police will better understand what the force does and why.”

Well, that’s certainly one way to look at it. Hopefully it works out just as they need it to, but at the same time, if anybody steps out of line, the police can definitely use the RS4’s muscle in order to catch up to any speeding driver.

Even though its specs haven’t changed the past couple of years, the Audi RS4 is still a very quick car able to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds thanks to the naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8 engine’s 450PS and 430Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque.

Overall, it is a more capable car than what the NSW Police generally uses for high speed pursuits, namely the HSV ClubSport R8 SV-R.
