We already know that the Dino is on its way – because Marchionne confirmed it – but we had to see it to believe it.

Well, it isn’t what you call production-ready yet, but a few photos with the test mule was all we needed to start daydreaming about the upcoming mid-engine sportscar. The vehicle may look like an awkward blend between the 458 and the 488, but the improvised body hides the underpinnings of what is believed to be the Dino.

In fact, our photographers reported that the car didn’t sound anything like the usual V8, nor like the twin-turbocharged 3.9-litre variant, as a Ferrari 488 passed shortly after the shots were taken and offered an aural comparison. Actually, the test mule made a noise similar to the V6 twin-turbo, found on the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV.

Even though the Dino moniker has yet to be confirmed, reports mention the car may sport the 486 badge. That said, if we were to follow the 488 GTB’s naming technique, the 486 symbol would translate into an automobile sporting a 2916 cc engine – a normal displacement for V6 powerplant and a great one for trying to avoid higher taxes in some markets such as China.

As we already informed you, the car will probably be built around a new modular architecture, flexible enough to accommodate front, or mid-engine setups. That said, according to Car magazine’s sources, the car’s V6 engine will be available in two power outputs options – with a choice of 450 Hp or 600 Hp.

Moreover, the automobile will allegedly see the light of day somewhere around the end of the decade. That’s bad news for the impatient diehard Ferrari fans out there

Mind you, don’t consider the upcoming car as an entry-level Ferrari because it won’t be. In fact, it will be priced around the $210,000 mark, right next to the California. If a customer desires an entry-level Ferrari, there’s always one on the second-hand market.
