VW’s popular small car turns 40 this year and the automaker is marking the event with the Polo Original special edition model. Available to order in Germany in a limited run of 1,000 units, the VW Polo Original is offered exclusively with a five-door body.

The special edition VW Polo features design upgrades including exterior mirror caps in body color, darkened taillights, the Polo “Original” emblem on the front fenders and “Original” lettering on the door sill trims. Other exterior touches include the LED headlights, the gloss black radiator grille and “Portago” 16-inch alloy wheels. Customers can also order the Honey Orange Metallic exclusive paintwork.

Inside, the VW Polo Original comes with multifunction steering wheel, gear lever knob and handbrake grip insert in leather with “Truffle”-colored stitching. As a tribute to the first-generation VW Polo, the sport seats feature a plaid pattern in black/orange with faux leather side bolsters and headrest. Aluminum accents on the pedals and center console complete the interior upgrades.

Standard equipment includes the Climatronic air conditioning system, Media-In speakerphone and multimedia socket, as well as safety assist systems such as Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and rear view camera.

The VW Polo Original is available in six engine-gearbox combinations from €19,950 (approximately $21,850), offering a price advantage of €1,119 compared to similarly equipped standard models.
